Day 8 Deuteronomy 27-28
SPIRITUAL
CONFUSION The Lord will strike you with…confusion of heart – Deut. 28:28
It’s sad to see Christians mixed up on the most basic of spiritual principles. One has to wonder what went wrong. Spiritual confusion can usually be traced back to wrong choices that have been made independently of God’s revealed Word. This chapter describes a series of curses that God pronounced on those who ignore His warnings. It’s important to realize that Christians are no longer under God’s curse, but they can grope in darkness and be needlessly oppressed because of independent choices.
“Why is this happening to me?’ is the first response to choices gone predictably bad. The Bible gives the answer: “The foolishness of a man perverts his way, and his heart frets against the Lord” (Prov. 19:3). The Bible is our manual for living. When we’re saved we become possessors of a new life. We are the latest model of God’s grace. God gives us a book with the standard operating procedures. When we experience a failure or breakdown we can go back to the “book” and find out what went wrong. That “book” also tells us how to get fixed, from the smallest to the biggest repairs.
It would be unwise to purchase a new automobile and immediately remove the manual from the glove compartment. Yet, that’s exactly what many saints do. They take off down the road of life ignoring the “book” God has given for standard procedures. The Bible is given to teach us about ourselves, to tell us what is going wrong, to inform us how to correct the problem, and to instruct us how to keep the problem from happening again (Look at II Tim. 3:16).
Where is your “book?” Is it stuck in a drawer, standing on a shelf, gathering dust, or lost in the rubble? Make it habit to keep your Bible with you wherever you are – in your car, on your desk, at your bedside, in your purse, on top of your books, in your pocket – like American Express, don’t leave home without it.
There is no reason for confusion of heart when we own a copy of God’s standard operating procedures for the human soul. If you use it as directed you will keep your vessel in good working order.
Did you look at the manual today?
